On the Road to SPAH

Well we have booked the hotel and we are gearing up for the two seminars we will be hosting at this year SPAH 2012.

1962: In the fall of that year, Earl Collins Jr. (1924-1988) of Dearborn, Michigan, ran ads in his local newspapers, looking for harmonica players and from that beginning, the idea of SPAH (Society for the Preservation and Advancement of the Harmonica) was born.
It has been quit a journey to get to this point. It all started for me in 2009 when I went to my first SPAH in Sacramento California.
I am going to be doing  blogs on the road to Texas and back.
I will also be doing interviews and posting here.
My journey is one of personal triumph and overcome adversity but that another story, so lets just say it has not been easy.
My harmonica to me has always just been my best friend I carried in my pocket everywhere and just blew, then in 1999 I went to my first masterclass and really found there was so much more to it.
Years past and in 2009 I returned to the Masterclasses held in San Jose by David Barrett and then to SPAH that is when I really knew I h
ad to study and take matters into my hands.
The inspiration and joy at I found at SPAH also made me realize all the benefits of this society!
I did not get to go again until 2011  (link to school on Photo cool hey) I was so lucky to see my great teacher, mentor, and friend Howard Levy. I have worked both personally and online with Howard. Howard received the entertainer of the year award 2010, he was not able to present 2011 to Brendan Powers, as he was touring and entertaining as always! However he did stop by I got to have a glass of OJ with him.

Here is a great example of players Jamming the hall after a concert by Howard Levy
And a video of Howard and Brenden.
Next blog a interview with now President of SPAH Tom Stryker!
